Our Three Blessings

I stepped away from my computer at work for a second too long. When I arrived at work this morning my background was slightly altered...too funny. Seriously, who draws a mustache on a baby girl...

This weekend, more so than most, made it feel like we have 3 babies. Granted, we do have 3 babies but most of the time we are home and have our routine down. On Saturday we went to our friends house for their kids birthday party. Between soothing fussy babies, keeping an eye on where they all were, sneaking in a quick bite of food, and visiting, it was a crazy couple hours. I'm sure we would have been stuck on the couch with all of them the whole time if there weren't lots of people who wanted to help and snuggle a baby or 2. (Thanks for all the help!!) Then on Sunday Eric took Ethan with him to the park for a co-worker's wedding reception, which meant I only had 2 at home. It was so much fun. I was amazed at how much easier it is with 2. So I took advantage of my time with them and played dress up...ok probably more fun for me than them, but they were getting some quality mommy attention. I put them in the cute bathing suits Melissa & Craig got them and set up ...

I try to keep positive and appreciate the little things. Today I was appreciating candy. Today, after scrounging for change in my purse and finding a machine with Rasinets (yum) I was completely disappointed when the candy never fell. I don't do well with anticipation, I couldn't even wait till Father's day to give Eric his gift (a shirt "Dad of triplets... - that's right I'm the man"). Now, I know I really didn't need the candy but it sounded good. So as I stood there contemplating running back to my desk for $1 to put even more money into the stupid machine, I tried to jiggle the machine a bit and ended up hitting the change return button. To my delight the change I put in came back! So tempting fate, I loaded the money right back into the machine and once again pressed E1 for my Rasinets, but this time 2 packages fell. Yaaaa!!!! Even more candy. Now, if I were only smart enough to not have eaten both and saved one for another day.

They aren't quite saying da da yet but that doesn't mean that daddy isn't the best. In previous generations dads would go to work, come home, pat the baby on the head, play with them for a bit, and get to do the fun stuff. This generation is a bit better in general with child care but when there are 3 babies, there are no options. Super Dad is always there to the rescue. Eric is definitely a Super Dad!! From the beginning when I was overwhelmed with having 3 babies he was always there to take over the fussiest baby and help piece me back together. They all light up when they hear his voice when he comes into the room and stop what they are doing to find him. Just the other day he had them all cracking up (with the cutest laughs) while he was playing with the dog...talk about super dad. I always knew that Eric would be a good dad, watching him interact with our niece and nephew, but he has really risen to the challenge of having 3.

My friend came over to visit today with her son, he's was born 2 weeks after the babies. So we had fun with 4 babies all pretty much the same age...as if 3 wasn't enough. Between lots of bottles and little naps we had a nice visit. Leah was snoozing and we had all the boys together in their bumbo seats. We were making the joke "No Girls Allowed" After a quick snooze Leah got up and joined in the fun...and Missy. The boys aren't too overly protective yet about their sister hanging out with another boy. And of course boys rule and girls drool...Leah's new favorite thing after eating and smiling is blowing raspberries.

Today the babies had their 4 month check up and shots. Unfortunately the apt was right when they would normally be eating. They were playful and happy for the first half of the appointment after a nice cat nap on the ride there. The second half of the appointment they got tired. Over tired babies and shots really don't mix. But they calmed right back down and snoozed on the way home and on our walk. I was thinking about how appointments with one baby would go...probably faster, with three it takes almost 2 hours at the doctors office and then another forty minutes of transit time. When they were younger we would plan on feeding them at the office. This time we got away with feeding them before and after. All three got a clean bill of health and some homework. The backs of their heads are getting a bit flat so for the next 2 months we have to adjust how we are holding them and during the day keep them up off their backs...so we will have to pin Ethan down because the instant you put...

Last night was our first night without the sitter that we had to work the next day. It couldn't have gone any better. We did the normal night time routine and had all the babies down by 8:30. I went to sleep around 9:30 and Eric stayed up to do a dream feed for Logan around 11. Ethan fussed a bit around 1 and 2, but didn't get up to eat till 4:30. So he got some good mommy snuggles and ate around 5. Then I got ready for the day and woke Eric up around 6 when Leah was waking up to eat. Logan was happy sleeping till Leah was done eating (that is if mommy stopped messing with him and moving his blanket off his face because he kept scooting down into his swaddle). There is nothing like everything going smoothly to build confidence and make having triplets seem easy.

It's not easy being the photographer and the Mommy. On Sunday I took the babies 4 month pictures. Between feedings/naps/walks and Eric getting the grass cut and doing laundry the pictures took all day. I'm pretty happy with how they turned out. I'm starting to think that I will need to recruit more help for future months as they will be less and less willing to hold still. Plus, I still haven't gotten all the hands and feet shots I'd like to have...but other things always seem to be more important. Here are just a few... Leah and I went to Jake's graduation party today. It was fun getting out with a baby and getting to see everyone. We are still a bit hesitant about taking the babies out with a lot of people so we thought it would be more manageable if I went with one baby. Leah did really well. She liked being outside and getting to look around and smile at everyone...till she got tired and started screaming. She snoozed on my lap for a bit and was much more pleasant after that till we had to go home. I'm sure she's going to sleep well tonight. The babies turned 4 months old on Friday. They are getting so big and are so much fun. I was reading another triplet mom's blog, her babies are also 4 months. She made a good point, at this point we have changed as many diapers as someone with one baby would in the 1st year...that's a lot of diapers. Our happy babies Ethan, Leah, & Logan

I took a video using my camera and didn't realize that you can't rotate video like you can pictures...but it's too cute so just turn your head. Don't mind the puppy or the singing. Ethan never lost the walking reflex and he's so strong that He will "walk" across the floor when we help hold him up a bit.

Like any good tennis match or Volleyball game the crowd is always fun to watch as they follow the ball back and forth across the net. Over the weekend, I was playing with the babies on the floor and propped them up with pillows against the couch so they could sit up for a bit. One of their hanging toys was close by that has a rattle and fish and is pretty entertaining to stair at. I started moving the toy back and forth in front of them and right on cue they were following the toy back and forth. I've done it with one before but having all 3 in unison looking back and forth is great. I think it was more fun for me than them. Tonight I did the same thing again but this time they were laying down. It had a much better effect with them sitting up.

There was a traffic jam on the blanket yesterday. Logan decided he would roll over (for the first time) and rolled right into Ethan, repeatedly. I'm glad I always have a camera near by. Now we just have Leah to go and we'll have 3 rolling babies (belly to back). The night before Logan rolled she looked like she was trying. Here are a few pictures form the past couple days. For a few weeks now Leah has been sleeping 6 to 7 hour stretches at night. Just recently the boys have started sleeping longer stretches with her more consistently. It's so amazing having them all sleep from their last feeding at night (around 8) 'till around 2am. Their more consistent sleeping pattern has made weekends easier. Eric used to stay up all night with them and get me up around 4 or 5 to take over and he'd go to sleep. The last couple weekends we've all been going to bed around the same time. I take the first feeding around 2am and Eric takes the second around 6am. A big part of the schedule change is due to Logan. He used to spit up quite a bit after each feeding and we'd have to watch him closer. Now, he's doing great (better). Last Saturday, I was actually able to get up around 7:30 (while everyone else was sleeping) to weeded the front yard and trimmed the bushes. The yard was really looking like we had triplets. My attempt at making the 100th post coincide with the babies being 100 days old failed, but I was close. It's amazing to think of how much has happened and changed since August 20, 2008 (my first post). We've gone from: - Missy getting all the attention - to her just getting bits here and there, and a whole lot more treats because we feel bad for not giving her enough attention and bribing her to leave us alone. - Me being able to run a 5K - to not being able to walk much farther than between the bathroom and bed - to being able to walk a couple miles pushing a stroller and wrangling the dog. - A virtually care free, get up and go, couple - to parents of 3. - planning out where we will take our next trip - to planning out where we can get diapers and formula on sale. - Sleeping for 10-12 hours - to sleeping for 1-2 hour stretches - to sleeping for 6 hour stretches. - Eating what ever I wanted to not being able to eat much from lack of space and heart burn - to eating mass quant...
